An amusing story
This will make Rhonda (Little Maple's mom) laugh.
I meet once a week with a coworker to do a brief Bible Study. She's really funny, in a very Chinese way (in a black-socks-with-open-toed-tan-sandals kind of way), and she asks every question with equal sincerity.
Take Monday:
HER: "What does the word 'doody' mean?"
ME: "Whaaaaaaaaa?"
HER: "What does the word 'doody' mean? I see it on Emails all the time."
Imagine me boggling here. I really don't think she's talking about poop.
ME: "Ummm, how do you spell this word?"
HER: "D-U-D-E."
ME: "OHHHHHHHHHH. You mean dude."
HER: "Yes, doody."
ME: "It's pronounced 'dude.'"
HER: "Okay, 'dude.' What does it mean?"
The following three minutes' explanation was unsatisfactory to both of us, in a highly amusing way. I finally told her it meant "person" and was slang, and used in very casual situations. I think I would fall out of my chair if she ever used it.
