someone is practicing for the darwin awards
Date: Yesterday, around 6pm
Scene: Driving down scenic Highway 13 on the way to 580E
Highway 13 is a four lane highway, two in each direction. I was doing about 65 in the fast lane and about to pass someone on the right when I spotted a red sedan in the next lane speed up behind the guy to my right. I thought to myself, "There's no way they would try to cut between us," because... well, there was a half a car length. I figured they would slow down.
No, they veered into the shoulder to go around the car, tried to veer back into the right lane, only to lose control of the car, right in front of me. I hit the brakes as they spun across the freeway, tires squealing, a thick gray smoke coming from the tires.
I came to a full stop right before the gray cloud. People behind me had stopped. I put on my hazards, switched to recycled air, and crept through the cloud.
No sign of the car.
Heart thudding, I sped back up and got back home safely.
Idiots.
